BUDDY WALK
What is a Buddy Walk?
The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the national Down Syndrome
Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness month in October. To
promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome.

Over the past twelve years, the Buddy Walk program has grown from 17 walks
to more than 300 expected in 2011 across the country and around the world.
Last year 250,000 people participated in a buddy walk and raised over 5.5
million to benefit national education, research and advocacy initiatives, as
well as local programs.

The Buddy Walk is typically a one mile walk in which anyone can participate
with out special training. It is a wonderful, heartwarming event that celebrates
the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down Syndrome.
The Buddy Walk will be held on
October 8th 2011 at MSJC in
Menifee.  from 10am-2pm.
Down Syndrome Association of
Hemet and surrounding cities
The walk this year will have a community theme. We will have
many vendors for all special needs and fabulous entertainment.
We are working very hard to make this walk the best yet so please
check back with us often to see the updates!

Registration is open! Please form a team captain and then have
everyone register under your team. Each registered person will
get lunch, T-shirt, goodie bag, and all of the days activities. Each
team captain will get a flag and year badge.  Registration is $15
per person. Each individual with Down Syndrome is free. We still
need them registered to get correct T-shirt size. Registration must
be done by September 3rd to ensure T-shirt size. Each registered
person will get a wrist band.

When you register you will have the option to create your own
fundraising page. PLEASE personalize it!!! Put a picture of the
person you love, or know and or admire on it and write a little
something about them. It has been proven that when you create
your own page you raise more money and have more team
members.

We will be giving away prizes for the team that has raised the
most money. The team that has the most members and the team
that is most decorated to their theme.

We are asking that each team choose a theme EX: 80's, pirates,
clowns, baseball etc.. Be creative with it. The team that goes crazy
with it will be the winner!

The flags: This is a new concept we are introducing this year.
Each team captain and individual with Down Syndrome will get a
flag and year badge for free. This is a white flag that you can
decorate how ever you want. The idea is to add a new year badge
every year and bring it with you to the walk and wave it around with
pride.
What if you can not afford the registration? We
still want you to come and show your support
for individuals with Down Syndrome. You will
not get a wrist band that will allow you to have a
T-shirt, goodie bag and lunch. You will be able
to do the kids areas all entertainment and of
course the walk.
We will have many fun things for sale on the
day of the event. We will have T-shirts, foam
fingers, flags and badges. We will also have
DS clothing and trinkets.
